The first rehearsal of the 2011-2012 VCS Season is coming up on Tuesday, Sept. 6th and it’s also the first of our four open rehearsals during the season. What’s that mean? Well, technically, it means that the rehearsal is open for anyone to participate in, not just VCS paying members. It’s a straight-up rehearsal – and generally one with a lot of sight-reading and hearing the concert music for the first time, so it’s intense! The first rehearsal of each concert prep period is a chance for new folks to join us at a time when they start at the beginning of music preparing along with everyone else. But what it really offers is experience.
A choir, like any artistic ensemble, is a living, breathing entity. It’s full of personality – from the singers to the leaders to organizers – and it’s ALL about energy. Information about a choir is valuable, but it’s like information about a car – good to know, but how does it feel?! Does it fit you? Does it inspire, challenge, excite you? If you’re going to commit rehearsal time every week, reserve 4+ precious Saturdays for concerts, pay money for membership dues and music – you want that commitment to give back to you.
If you are choir-shopping, looking for the right place to jump back into music or looking for a first time experience, we’d love to have you consider the Vienna Choral Society. We could tell you lots of things about us and you can read all about the terms of membership on the membership page, but none of that is why you should join. You should join because singing — and in particular, singing with us — really floats your boat, fills you up or rocks your world. In short – because you want to and that decision belongs only to you!
