Two more days! We sing SOUNDS OF THE SEASON at 4:30 pm, Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Vienna Baptist Church, with the Northern Virginia Youth Winds and the Robinson Secondary School Orchestra.
Did we mention that there will be 20 of these accomplished young musicians? There will. On violins, violas, cellos, basses, flutes, clarinets, trumpets, horn, and trombone. We asked some of our guest musicians about their craft. Their answers were impressive and humbling.
How long have they been playing? “This is the start of my seventh year,” “8 years,” “10 years.” So basically, given how they’re largely high-schoolers, they started real young and probably have more combined hours of rehearsal and musicianship than many of the grown-ups in the choir.
How much do they rehearse? “Several times a week, college schedule permitting,” “as much as I can,” ” 1 – 2 hours, daily.” This on top of a full academic schedule.
What inspires them? “It gives me a thrill, much like a roller coaster would.” “The sound an orchestra makes when all of the instruments’ individual sounds blend perfectly.” “I work hard because I love music and I am inspired by how people react to my art.”
The answers express so much what the choir feels every regular rehearsal.
