It’s not too late to sing up for our summer vocal workshop. All voices and skill levels are welcome, as are “shower” singers who don’t sing professionally.
The workshop is Saturday, August 23, 2014, 9 am to 4 pm at Emmanuel Lutheran Church (2589 Chain Bridge Road, Vienna, VA 22181)
You can sign up HERE and find out more details about the workshop HERE.
Why sign up? Especially if you’re not a singer? Lots of reasons. As you can see from the video clip, the workshop is clearly good for singers who want to improve technique and performance skills.
But it’s also great for non-professional singers, because all the lessons you learn – pacing, breathing, communicating with the audience, stage presence, dealing with the unexpected when you’re up in the spotlight, confidence – it’s all incredibly useful no matter what you do. Here’s how one of our alum, Robert Gutcho puts it:
I have found the VCS workshops to be extremely useful in improving my singing abilities. Jennifer’s workshops are always educational and engaging. I know that music is an important part of my life; I find singing as a soloist or as a member of a choir to be quite therapeutic, it is essentially my “spa escape”. My career is in technical sales where I deliver presentations to various size audiences. I recall a person attending one of my seminars a few years ago approaching me afterwards inquiring how I learned to present so well. The bottom line is my several years of singing have helped me in just about every aspect of my life, both personally and professionally.
And there you have it.
A quick word about the Masterclass – they are designed to be hands-on coaching for singers looking to polish their music. Masterclass attendees come prepared to sing a specific piece of music, and bring sheet music with them for the accompanist. However. The Masterclass isn’t just for the singer, or between the singer and our director. It is an interactive, immersive experience between singer, director, and the rest of the workshop. Everyone learns from the Masterclass.
We still have a couple of Masterclass spots available, and there’s definitely room for general attendees.
Please do sign up, and leave prepared for the season – or your next challenge, whichever is more important to you.
