Remember how we said in our last note that the unexpected is where the joy is?
It’s also where the laughs are, and all the fun! In our last concert of the season, THERE’S ALWAYS PLAN B, we’ll bring you a good dose of both from our youngest music partners of the season – the fourth and fifth graders of Louise Archer Elementary School Chorus, directed by Sean Cator and Mary Frances Dini.
We asked Mr. Cator and Ms. Dini what it’s like when the talent are tweeners. The good-humored answer: “You never know what they are going to say (or do) next!”
We do know that – as a teaching choir – having young singers join us is a wonderful experience. Sure, we grown-ups model professionalism and share a bigger stage with them. And they get to watch grown-ups do what they do. “Really? You all get together to sing? Just for fun?” “Yes!”
But more than that, younger performers are the modern Beethovens of the bunch. They sweep in, much as he did, into the staid and stuffy parlors of the day, and sweep away all the musical cobwebs. They remind us of what we are capable of, of how singing is much more than following instructions on sheet music. They remind us of the great joy that comes with being in the moment, embracing the possibilities and taking the chances. It is everything that keeps singers and audiences, of all ages, coming back for more….again and again.
We can’t wait. All we need now, is an audience to delight.
Please do join us for There’s Always Plan B – 7:30 pm, Saturday, May 18, 2019, Providence Presbyterian Church (9019 Little River Turnpike, Fairfax, VA 22031).
