Welcome to our 32nd season, where we cannot wait to sing for you! Yes, some of us sang in July at our first VCS Summer Sing. But that was just one week! It was still a bunch of Tuesdays without music. Sad. However, this week the music began, and we have four great concerts to look forward to this season!
First up, in October, American Quilt – complete with a repertoire that reflects our unique musical history from unassuming folk and gospel “porch singing” to the expansive, defining, wide-open-spaces Americana of Aaron Copland. December, as always, will feature Sounds Of The Season. Our March concert – Music, She Wrote features outstanding female composers from Hildegard Von Bingen to her modern contemporaries. And finally, for a frenetic, fun finish to the season, Gershwin And Friends – a coda, if you will, to the optimism and energy of American Quilt, only more urban. (Gershwin literally wrote the now classic “Rhapsody in Blue” on a train, inspired as much by its “steely rhythms, its rattle-ty bang” as by a looming deadline.)
As always, we expect to sing a couple of large works – at least – and partner with several other choirs, orchestras, musicians, and soloists from age 10 on up. All our concerts will again be at Providence Presbyterian Church (9019 Little River Turnpike, Fairfax, VA 22031. The better for you to enjoy the wonderful acoustics in that beautiful room.
As always, none of this happens without your support. So we hope you’ll come back again, not just to buy tickets but to become a Friend of VCS. Some of you have already signed up to be a Friend – for which we cannot thank you enough! It’s probably because you know what we do – it’s a really good deal. Friends of VCS can receive a whole host of benefits including reserved reserved seating on show night no matter how packed the room, season tickets, a “bring a friend for free to any concert” card, and great benefits all season at participating vendors.
Speaking of which, our vendors this year are Caffe Amouri, Cocoa Vienna, Bards Alley, and – wait for it! – Nothing Bundt Cakes (Vienna location). Coffee, candy, books, and cake in addition to awesome music, and our fun after-concert receptions. And one more thing: Everyone who gives to Friends of VCS is automatically entered into a raffle for two $50 gift cards so you can go out to dinner after a show.
What’s not to love? Become a Friend of VCS today – you won’t regret it!
Here’s to another great season of music, community, and joy!
