Getting To Know You: The 2015 Games

May 14, 2015

And finally this concert week, we get to know a bit about the 2015 World Police and Fire Games. You’ve probably started to see ads and billboards for the games — which are huge! The 2015 Games  will feature 12,000 first responders from 70 countries competing in 61 sports over 10 days in 53 venues throughout Fairfax County and the National Capital Region. The Games are the largest multi-sport event in the world for public safety officials. Most events will take place in Fairfax County and will be free to attend.
logo-fairfax2015-frontUL-4VCS: We say Games, you say
WPFG: 61
VCS: Three things the Games would like us to know that we probably aren’t aware of.

WPFG: All events are free and open to the public, boxing is consistently one of the most well attended competitions and all athletes pay their own way to participate in the World Police & Fire Games.
VCS: Best thing about the games is?
WPFG: The camaraderie and the competition.
VCS: Oddest/weirdest/funniest/most interesting thing about the games is?
WPFG: There is a sport for everyone, including darts, dodgeball and tug of war!
VCS: Coolest/newest/farthest country an athlete is coming from….
WPFG: We have representation from over 60 countries already. China will host the 2019 Games so we have a large delegation participating this year.
VCS: The amount of caffeine being consumed at Games HQ is…?
WPFG: At least 3 caffeinated beverages per staff member per day.
(It could be worse. VCS’ executive director will probably just mainline caffeine this weekend….)
VCS: Sleep is something …..
WPFG: We all need more of.
VCS: We say “everyday heroes,” you say ….
WPFG: The public safety staffers would say “we are just doing our jobs.”
We sing Someone To Watch Over Me: Everyday Heroes – 4:30 pm, Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Vienna Baptist Church – in partnership with the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department, the Vienna Police Department, and the 2015 World Police and Fire Games.
