At VCS we usually name concerts. This fall, we’re naming the season. Because no matter what concerts look like or how we sing for you, it is indeed a BRAVE NEW SEASON for us all.
Some things don’t change, though. There are few substitutes for the sound of the unfiltered human voice lifted in perfect harmony. There is nothing quite like hearing that one perfect note soar and settle over the room. And as we found out in the last year and a half, virtual has kept us all going, but we’d rather take in-person over squares on a screen.
Which is why we plan to hold our first concert of the season the weekend of December 11 and 12. Mark your calendars!
Saturday, December 11, 7:30 pm
Providence Presbyterian Church, 9019 Little River Turnpike, Fairfax, VA 22031
Sunday, December 12, 4 pm
Church of the Holy Comforter, 543 Beulah Road, Vienna, VA 22180
The challenge, of course, is how to do that safely amid a pandemic that’s not done with us yet. We’re determined to figure that out.
At VCS, we do a lot more than sing. We’re a community with friendships that wouldn’t happen anywhere else. We’re an artistic community that always asks “why not?” It’s why, after a brief pause early in the pandemic, we decided to continue singing as best as we could. And it’s why we are continuing to sing this season — vaccinated, in-person, masked up indoors (yes, throughout rehearsals), and safely distanced. In our Artistic Director, Mike Horanski’s words, singing together is what music making is all about. And we hope to do that for you, in-person, this season, as circumstances allow.
Last season was one big ongoing question mark. But we asked “why not?” and you stepped up to support us. This season is a different question mark, we’re still asking “why not?” And we hope you’ll support us again by becoming a Friend of VCS.
Friends get some great benefits. Reserved seating at in-person concerts and an invitation-only pre-concert chat with Mike before virtual concerts. Automatic entry into a raffle for two $50 gift cards to local restaurants. And great discounts to be had at great local vendors like Caffe Amouri, Bards Alley Bookstore, Cocoa Vienna, and Nothing Bundt Cakes (Vienna location).
Our Friends of VCS campaign goes through September 30 and donating is easy. Give online or send us an old fashioned check at 1765 Greensboro Station Place, Fl 900, McLean, VA 22102-3472.
We hope you’ll be Friends again this season, and we hope to see you — in-person, distanced, masked up, singing as safely as we can — in December!
