For Members

The Vienna Choral Society is a membership organization. The work of VCS is accomplished through collaboration between the Members, the Board of Directors and the Executive Director, in consultation with the Artistic Director.

Each singer commits to participating fully in the learning and performing of selected repertoire and to supporting VCS with dues, ticket sales, and donations when possible.

The financial commitment for singers includes annual dues of $125, the purchase of music, and the approved performance attire. Gentlemen wear black tuxedos, which they must provide. Ladies must purchase the approved two-piece ensemble ranging in price from $50-70.

Members are asked to give additional volunteer time each year to perform for community events and celebrations, to help out with the “after concert” receptions, and to attend twice yearly VCS Membership Meetings. All Members are expected to sell tickets for the concerts.

To become a singing member, please go to our Membership Information page, fill out a couple of short forms, and read the membership guidelines that give you details about dues, rehearsals, and committments. It’s that simple!

Expectations

PRACTICE AND PREPARE

Diligent and faithful practice between rehearsals is expected. Successful rehearsals continue the work accomplished at previous rehearsals combined with mid-week review and preparation. Even without a piano or sight reading ability, each singer benefits from the review of lyrics, rhythms, and rehearsal markings.

Rehearsals and Concerts

CONCERTS: Commit to the Season. VCS performs three to four major concerts a year, as well as several community performances. Check the calendar for upcoming dates and venues.

REHEARSALS: Commit to the Rehearsal Requirements and Schedule. VCS singers work as a team to learn, refine and polish the repertoire for each concert. A side benefit of is the ability to improve vocally through the diligent practice and tutelage found only in the rehearsal time.

Cancellations

Occasionally, inclement weather or other unforeseen events prevent a rehearsal or performance from taking place.

Please note that:

  • Only the Artistic Director and the VCS President can make the decision to cancel a rehearsal or performance and will communicate that decision to the membership as soon as possible.
  • Section leaders will be notified, who in turn will contact the members of the section by phone or email.
  • Members are encouraged to check phone messages and email frequently and are NOT encouraged to travel in inclement weather.
  • An additional rehearsal may be scheduled to accommodate the loss of rehearsal time due to inclement weather or other emergency.
